Imphal, December 17, 2011: In a first of its kind, a comic book (Fungga Wari Laiyek) in Meetei Mayek on the popular Manipuri folktale, Chekla Langmeiton was released along with a Meetei Mayek Hanging Chart (Faklang Mapee Yek) at Manipur Press Club here today.
The comic book and the Hanging Chart have been published by Kshetrimayum Arun alias Thoiba Meetei in memory of his late father Kshetrimayum Manaobi(Naobi).
Director of Social Welfare G. Seityabati, Chief Librarian of Manipur State Central Library S. Tampakleima and Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meeteilon edition) Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang attended the comic book releasing function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Advisor of MEELAL Ngasepam Yumjao was also present at the occasion as Special Invitee.
Speaking at the occasion, Shivadutta observed that it would be sensible on the part of people in Manipur to think over what stand they should adopt and take part in the race for development against the onslaught of globalization.
Manipuris have a distinct cultural heritage and identity of their own and these should e safeguarded.
He pointed out that since the momentum of teaching lessons in school in Meetei Mayek has picked up, every efforts should be made to ensure availability of reading materials in Meetei Mayek adequately.
